Fenland Senior Youth Theatre Our Day Out

October 2007

Recently I attended the Fenland Senior Youth Theatre’s performance of ‘Our Day Out’ directed by Darren O’Sullivan adapted from the play written by Willy Russell. Altogether a fantastic show!
The excellent level of acting is what stuck in my mind. Lauren Russell played the character Andrews, obviously a hard worker who is full of energy. Many other characters followed with the same enthusiasm, played by Tom and Alex Field, Beth Levicki, Jodie Hicks, and David Richardson. Actors understood the script and expressed the joys and agonies of growing up very well. Lights and sound were faultless! The tunnel scene proved that the technical team was very well rehearsed and the Madness music certainly complimented the play’s theme. The audience did not need any help getting in the mood, with the well constructed humour, which made it more fun. The theatre is within March Town Hall and is the perfect size for a small audience, creating an intimate performance. Tickets cost £5.00 and concessions were £3.50, definitely well worth it! The show was in honour of the late Peter Hewitt, who would have enjoyed the portrayal of the school children’s no-hope outlook. Very entertaining and well put together!
